What is a favicon?
A favicon (short for "favorites icon"), also known as a page icon, is an icon associated with a particular website or webpage. Browsers that support favicons may display them in the browser's URL bar, next to the site's name in lists of bookmarks, and next to the page's title in a tabbed document interface. How do I put one on my website?
Convert you logo or desired picture to 16x16 pixels in size. Save the image as an ICO file as 'favicon.ico'. Upload it to your website in the root directory. Popular browsers will recognize this immediately and put it to action. And if all this is german to you - try this tool. It works like a charm.I want an animated favicon - how do I achieve that?
Of course, favicons are cool and add that personalized touch to your website - but why not go that extra mile and create an animated one - like on this site. This is a pretty simple effect to achieve. Just use an animated gif instead of a regular one. Convert that to a favicon.ico file and you're all set to go.I like this!
So do I! Leave your site URL in the comments section for me to know if I've been able to help you. Feel free to contact me for more information. And if you're wondering why I don't have a favicon yet - its 'coz I was too busy figuring out how...
