Murli kills Munnabhai

Suddenly the realization dawns upon me that I may be the only one who didn't like Lage Raho Munnabhai - oh God, am I evil?
I personally don't care even if I am devil personified, but if I spent 2.5 hours on something, I'd expect it to be worth it. Which Munnabhai part 2 - for me wasn't.
The movie is not a sequel to the very popular Munnabhai MBBS, but it like another episode with only two common characters - Munna (who sadly, is referred to more as Murli) and Circuit. While Arshad saves the sanity of the movie, Sanjay - to me - looks a little tired in his acting. As if its a trodden path and he doesn't have to work hard enough to make it work. Like the brand is established and he only has to play the part. He didn't really impress.
Vidya Balan is pretty - no doubt, but has little to show for her part. Her only role in the movie is to give a pleasant presence and add a romantic twist to it - though the romance too is not well-formatted. While the naughtiness in Chinky - Munna relationship in the first part puts a smile on your face, Jhanvi - Murli don't click as a fun couple. Its just too typical like a hindi movie. Boman Irani is pushed into a part of a corrupt Sardarji (Lucky) - but is made to look rather repulsive than funny. The costumes make him vulgar, loud and incompetant of raising any smiles - I guess I was just lost in his nasty beard and red pajamas.
The comedy is not great. Infact, its only average. I don't recall any fits of laughter or even giggles throughout the movie. The take is on Gandhism, and its application in today's life. The idea is good, so is the implementation - but in the midst of it all, we wonder why it had to be Munna and Circuit, it might as well have been some other characters.
LRM is not a funny movie - its not a comedy. Its a feel-good light-hearted movie, but it doesn't even come close to MBBS. While the producers have tried hard to push too many pretty faces around the canvas - Vidya, Diya, Abhishek, Jimmy.. they have forgotten the core of Munnabhai.
Humor.

I havent seen this movie yet, but am planning to catch it up very soon.. friends said its really good movie.. so am kinda excited about this movie.. and I kinda know its subject as well.. so am very much interested in it.. coz me myself follows some of the principals of Gandhi.. not all.. coz its too difficult to follow :( but am trying to :p and they really works :)

I watched the movie last week.

I am not a Gandhi fan. However i liked the movie coz it is based on the principal i would love to follow - doing the right the thing.

LRM was never categorized as a sequel to MBBS. I hope Dutt wins another national award for the movie.

yuv:

hey gursimran!!!!its a realy gud movie....plus it hardly matters wat u thinnk bcoz its already a hit!!!!.....

Hi Gursimran,

Excellent design of your new blog. This is Farrukh from the mouthshut time - zamana ho gaya!

During these years, I started two blogs - a writing one (http://whowrotethat.blogspot.com) and an advertising one (http://farrukh.wordpress.com)

Boman Irani looks almost evil, man. His best role for me was in Darna Mana Hai.

Circuit is what I think really rocks in the movie. And Gandhiji looks a lot darker than I would imagine.

But I loved the way 'Gandhigiri' has just been made cool.
