The age old question remains as to why women fast and men don't. Are men not bothered about their life partner's lives or is it imperative that women, in any case, will live longer than men?
And how in heaven's name is not eating food or drinking water even remotely related to a man's lifespan. In such a case, if a woman fasts everyday, will her husband live forever?
I think its just another gimmick to blackmail the poor man to fish gifts and take her out for dinner. Indian women - they never run out of ideas...

Well yeah, if you look at it so practically, it is nonsense. But hey, aren't all our customs like that?

hmm, well.. every festival has its its true meaning.. ppl just make stories out of it and relate it with a god somehow.. but there are true stories behind it..
just check this out to know what Karva Chauth is
http://www.geocities.com/lamberdar/karva-chauth.html
like this, there reasons for lots of festivals, like Diwali.. ppl fire the crackers and lighten the deeya.. all says that Ram came from banvas thats why its enjoyed.. but true reason is something else.. its because.. in this time frame all the farmers have sold their food to others and have earned pretty good stuffs.. (yeah stuffs, barter system) or maybe money.. so they enjoy it at fullest..

Prashant: You don't want to know :P
Rohit: Its personal opinion.. but there needs to be a logic to support every arguement.. this one doesn't grab me right. Long life? Sure!
Kushagra: You're never living with them.. you're only living for them.
Dhaval: Who knew!?!? Just like the Valentine's day debate...

I think you ppl are missing out on the foresight of our forefathers. How many women actually maintain themselves after marrying? It's like an auto diet mechanism. With all the paraphranelia, ofcourse, that's what makes it fun. For the guys atleast.
And before anyone points fingers about the frequency of post-marital diets of the male counterparts; the simple answer is that it's NOT A CHANGE from before marital bliss.
