Forgotten Dreams

Its official - I haven't made it to St. Stephens. Although the waiting list shows off my misspelt name proudly in all its given up glory. I might've been fool enough to hope to be one those 46 people, but not fool enough to anticipate it again.
I won't even get into the blame game, for I think I relied too much on my extra-curricular. But then again, what good are achievements in the field of computers for any college? Especially if there is no computer society even, so as to talk of?
And I really couldn't be much of a sportsperson standing at less than five feet in height. So, it would really be dumb for them to accept me purely based on my crappy views on Kashmir, right?
So now I am in Hindu, in a course I don't care for (B.A. Pass), when I've always had the aptitude for Commerce. And after the board result shock, I can digest anything, it seems. And burp it all out as well...

Abhi:

Hey Gur,
Congrats. Although I'm not too sure what to say considering the so damn important interview you talked about in the last post.

Ok the interview part is good because here you might be getting admission because you might be a little interested in the stream or atleast the authorities think you are.
Here the admission is based solely on the marks and many people end up taking a particular stream not because they want to get that, but just because they could get it.

The good part id that you are getting into something you like. I know a few people who shift from science to comm/arts just because the commuting time to latter colleges are ~5to10 minutes less than the one they were slated to get admission into.

Have a good time. regards

Abhi:

And the interview part isn't all the good because as per your description it sort of sucks. :)

bye

May be you can still get admission, but even if you dont thats still fine coz Hindu is a damn good college, and Gur i suggest that you dont do a B.Com via correspondance, its just not worth it, instead you can go for CA/CS/CFA etc which are more professional and worthwhile... and with those n achivements under ur belt u are far ahead of Stephenites in many terms, just continue and keep the good work up...

Too bad about Stephens..can u transfer after a year or two? Computers in India certainly is underrated and overrated at the same time..still has an aura of awe but that also lends it a notion of antipathy.

BTW your posts are cropped from the right side...some technical glitch, I guess.

Abhi: I am only getting into a college I like. Everything else is a plain compromise. But I have no qualms because at the end of the day, its just about being a 'graduate' - without the botheration of which stream.
For me, its only a formality and its only well for people planning to take up careers which require degrees to have them in their fair share of institutes. I am not going to be doing anything in life which would weigh me according to my board result or the college I went to. So I have learnt not to bother for things which don't impact my life greatly.
The interview was good, I won't go the 'grapes are sour' way, because I know of my flaws. Its alright. I have seriously left caring anymore.
My only hope is to make some good friends - and the whole experience would be worthwhile :D
Thanks for caring :)

Kushagra: Precisely. For CA, you have to bag a BCom. degree unless you do it right after twelfth (which I wont). In any case, Bcom. interests me, so I'll do it just for the knowledge if nothing else :) That isn't so bad then, is it? And thanks for the kind words - thats how mom's been consoling me too ;)

Patrix: Nope, no transfers. Only one chance and one chance alone. But its alright, its not worth trying again :) Once you're in, everything becomes fine. Hindu's right after Stephens and in fact the cutoff's are nearly the same. The only difference is that Stephens holds interviews whilst Hindu doesn't. Which is a good thing now, isn't it? :)

I don't see anything cropping, except for the picture post.. is that what ur talking about?

i guess we just have to live with what we have..no great shakes...college is merely a medium..you still can be where you wanna be as long as you work hard...ok ok..will stop the preaching :)

Nope.the problem,i guess lies in the browser. Firefox crops your posts by a word at least on the right but its alrite in IE.

Hey cmon dont even tell me that i m consoling you, this is the last thing i will ever do,will still insist that you dont do ur B.Com and rather just simply begin with the Foundation Course for C.A. which i suppose would be far better, trust me with this, and i dont know what knowledge will you gain from doing B.Com correspondace, if u plan for MBA later it wont help in that case either. All the best with whatever u do

"I am only getting into a college I like. Everything else is a plain compromise"
I just know how u feel for I'm right in the same boat. The only difference is that though I had the group I wanted offered to me,I was bullied into taking something else.Atleast I made it to a place I wanted to be in.

Lime:

Patrix: I didn't know people even use Firefox as much. But with the cross-resolution problem already knocking on my nerves, I think its time I add cross-browser to the list.. thanks for the information! :)

Kushagra: I don't believe in the Indian Education System, and now I have more than ever reasons to say so. So I don't think I'd be any better off as a CA or an MBA graduate. I'd rather do something more productive in life than spend years passing degrees, what do u say?

Linus: Then you're all the more inspiration for me - to be in a place I want to be regardless of getting opportunities required for the same. Why do you think there's God anyway?

Quite true, but that exactly what i meant when i said no to you doing B.Com
