Is pretending to do something truly different from actually doing it? Not talking of taking lives here, for the only measure of its success would be the complete execution of the victim. So definitely, pretending to kill someone would be a far cry from actually doing it.
But talking of the 'sins' of the society - is pretending to kiss onscreen in a steamy movie scene any less sinful from doing it otherwise? Why is there a different attitude towards the same thing - just because we justify it as pretense?
Is shedding clothes because the 'script' asks for it any more decent than walking skimpily clad on the street? Why are skirts looked down upon whereas the item numbers are hooted for?
Is abusing someone in a pretense environment - even if you mean it - any more cultured than doing it in an actual setup?
Where are we drawing a line for condemning a certain act and why are we so double-faced in our critiques. Is it the way we've grown to be, telling ourselves that pretense is a complete different take from reality?
Is it really?

That's the way things are. I can only say this much.

the word "Sin" has been totally hyped in india, new things have always seen some resistence in indian society. but like rohit said, That's the way things are, people have developed a mind set to opposed things, which have some "Phiringi" approcah to it, be it fashion or be it kissing. but ofcourse people are tempted for new things, and slowly these things make a foray into our territory...so...the things which are opposed the most, are later adorned the most, simply putting it.."Mallika Sherwat is still hanging in there :P"

Sarthak: But my question is, that if Mallika is exposing to the extent that she is onscreen - how the hell is that anymore decent than exposing otherwise. If a photographer catches her in a bikini - inside her own house, it'll create a mad rush, but if she's showing it off in Khwahish, its accepted gracefully.
Is there much difference between pretense and reality - thats the sole arguement...

well, personally i don't see a difference between pretense and reality, coz we have only one part to play, that's reality. Talking about stardome...these people can get away with "Scripts asked so..." bahana....but yeah...if they are spotted somewhere the script is not required, it's reality. and reality bites....
