I could taste the nostalgia today. Never thought leaving Modern could be nostalgic. I've been waiting for this to end for ages... until now. I guess its not about leaving school, its more about marking an end to childhood.
The red sand beneath me seemed fiery and the green leaves seemes fresher. The almost edible food at the canteen didn't taste so bad after all. Even the bathrooms smelled good.
The covers of the D.T.C. bus seats that we so fondly tore apart now seemed smooth under my fingers and comfortable. Very comfortable. The rattling bus and the infinite seatbreakers didn't bother me once.
As we entered the bus this afternoon, we were stared at by the eleventh graders who didn't anticipate our arrival after the disappearance of a month. And as we made our way to the last seat, one of them blurted - 'Didi, can't you sit somewhere else? We're used to sitting here now, we'd have to move.'
My friend politely disposed his comment, but it bothered me. For us, this bus ride is suddenly such a luxury, this school is suddenly such an honor, this childhood is suddenly so important. For them, its just time for us to move on and them to take place on the last seat.
But I didn't blame them. It was only now that I realized I never thought of all those who moved on. And now, in a few days, I would no longer be in school. The ones gone were no longers the seniors or the juniors. They were just the ex-modernites. I too would join the others.
Ex-child. Ex-innocent. Ex-carefree.

nice thoughts Gur. I felt quite similar when I left my school... remembering all the good times and the not-so-good ones.
The 11th grader called you 'Didi'? OMG. Is that native Delhi?

Abhi: Thats sheer respect - I guess. Infact I am the only twelfth grader they call 'Didi' - everyone else is not respected as such, or feared :P
Kushagra: I won't cry - because I dont want to hold on to it.. I am willing to let it go, but just sad to watch it leave. I don't have many sentiments attached with the school or the people - I've outgrown all of that for some reason. But yes, nostalgia does take over sometimes.
Dhaval: All things that you can't handle, or try to - are a 'part of life' :P Have accepted that! :D
Patrix: Thanks :D If it makes me sound any cooler - yes thats me :P But if it doesn't, then here's the darn truth - naah, that ain't me...

Aaaah! Been there done that... Leaving school can be one of the strangest things in life... And those pangs of sadness you feel then do come as a surprise... I was in a bad state that day myself... Seems like it happened years ago... 3 to be exact...
Hang in there, kid! College will be just as much fun, if not more... And keep in touch with all your school friends... You dont usually find such friends again in life...
I loved the post... Touched a chord deep withing... See you at the DBM. :)

Hey well i have been to many schools and i still miss all of them....You know when one is in school, one feels how bad it is, the people, the teachers and rooms look to be torture chambers but when you realize it has become a part of your live...its hard to leave 'em.

Newton's Apple: Thanks for dropping by, and before I forget - Happy Birthday!
I agree about the surprise bit, even if it isn't too strong an emotion to lend tears to your eyes, but its there.. making a void within you, forcing
you to realize all thats gone by. Thanks for the advice rgding school friends - will keep it in mind, thanks :)
Looking fwd to DBM.. hopefully nothing comes in the way
Shonal: Like they say - you dont know what you've lost until its gone..
