Knotty Affairs

The latest is that a guy from school, all of seventeen is getting married on the 3rd of December. News has it, that its the last wish of a dying grandfather to see his oldest grandson tie the knot before he bids this world goodbye.
The guy has stopped coming to school since one of his good friends leaked the news and the whole institution is just anticipating his return to load him with teasings and mockery. The arrangements have of course begun.
The legality of the marriage is in question and so is its success. No one really knows if its really much of a marriage, or more of a contract. It also flies in the air that although the knot shall be tied now, the girl will only live with him once they've finished education - which is predicted to be another five years.
At this age, when infatuations and crushes shift by the second - getting married is really a matter of amusement.
Or is it?

Psst.. I've noticed all of you who've been very very kind to link me on your blogs have linked to limeice.com instead of the .net - maybe you oughtta fix that ;)

Man! what is happening in this world...it looks strange that a boy who is 17 is getting married. But what can he do..it's his grandfather's last wish....I can't think this marriage can be a success...coz he is so young and ur right Lime, this is the age of crushes...a new crush every week..lol. But it is sad to know about this thing.

Lime:

Its sad yes.. but also hilarious! Definitely sounds like a hindi movie script is coming to life...!

Preet:

Whoa! Child marriage - and that also from a product of one of the leading schools of Delhi - aren't the school authorities doing anything?

And what about the wishes of the poor guy? The old geeser of a grand father is not going to be around anyway - why ruin other young people's life - which are more precious and who are going to be living - in hell - if things dun work out. This is crazy - absurd.

This is horrable, still this type of things happens.. :o, is that boy is agree with the thing? I dont think so he must be.. and if he is.. then surely he must have come under pressure or maybe he is just crazy..

If he's in love with his fiance, then it wouldn't be too bad, in my opinion :)

Lime:

You know how the school authorities are Preet, they really couldn't care any less. I feel the same way you do - about the guy passing away regardless, but I guess a lot of pressure alters your way of thinking.
Dhaval, yep, he agrees. And thats exactly why he's getting marrried. If he didn't agree, he could just make a call to the police and things could work in the opposite direction. I think its probably a make believe wedding.. although everyone strongly says its real.
Kenneth: How can anyone be in love with anyone at this age? And even if it is love, its not the kind that would last in a marriage for sure. And anyway - the rumor is its an arranged match.. not a love one...

Harry:

No people!ont think anything funny is here. I think you should not make a fun of all this...Really try to understand the situation yaar...The guy is not marrying coz he wants 2 but coz its his grand dads' wish. So please Lime..tell others in your skool also...dont make a fun of the whole thing..try being in his place once and u wont like people makin a fun of u..am not being harsh but i just want u 2 realize to stop lookin at things from funny point of view...

Lime:

Like I said Harry - the question remains if its amusing or not - depending on perspectives.
You cannot avoid the fact that it is quite a stupid thing to do - regardless of grandfather's dying wish.. and seeing it from that perspective it is a matter of great disgust and maybe even amusement.
But, if we're on the line of pitying him - then it is a matter of sadness. I believe he should reach the police if he's not happy with the decision his family is taking - since he's still a minor and there is no law in this country that justifies his marriage.

He can't be happy..thats for sure..but also, he can't go to the police..coz it's the matter of his grandfather's last wish...he has no other alternative....if he cares for his grandpa. But..on the other side...this should not be forced on him coz this last wish is going to do nothing but spoil his life.

This is rediculous?!??! That grand daddy is no grand daddy. He just cares of himself. I hate such peole, old or young. Its completely the fault of his parents. Are they nuts??!?! I don't wanna be mean but..??!!?! This is enought o make it to the front page of the Nw York Times...or is it?!?!?! Why is he agreeing? Why doesn't he run away or someth8ng. I would....

harry:

Yeah Lime..u're rite...but goto the police?? I don think ...if he doesnt like the thing my suggestion would be to talk it out with the family..come on there must be something or else y would he marry at 17! there must b something..like u said..gal not livin wid him..or may b i think he luved the idea of getting married! Tell u what? Frankly speaking if i was in his place...i wud hav married..not for that grand dad thing...but i think i must marry! Legal? Uh what the heck...there's no age for falling in luv so y shud it b in marriage...well am ready to marry!Heheh

Lime:

Well, Kartik, I agree he can't be happy - because its just not fair. There is no reason why his life needs to be endangered for anyone - dying or living. But if his parents are adamant and so is the rest of the family - he should take some action, else he's a fool. Period.
Rohit, exactly - I think he should run away or something myself! There is no reason to undergo this torcher - and I think he should take the help of some understanding family member and sort things out for himself. Else he's just one big fool.
Harry, no way - he can't get married at 17, regardless of what he wants. Its illegal and its illegal for a reason. He's not mature enough to make a decision as such!

well, Lime.. its like this if a boy who is getting married is under age, but if he is agree with the marriage then its not illegal, even suppose that the person is 18yrs + and then also he dont want to get married but family ppl are forcing him to get married then thats illegal.. so its highly dependable on the person..

hey u got the comment notification email from my blog?

Lime:

Dhaval - I've forgotten my pwd for mail - I am in the process of retrieving it - so for now, I have no clue if any e-mail reached me at all..
About the guy - according to our law, he's a minor.. and no minor has the option of getting married. Why do you think child marriage is a crime then?

hmm ok, abt the password, well, we call child marriage as a crime.. because 99.99% cases are of the forced marriage.. but in this case force is not there, boy is happy.. but then also who knows the real thing..

Lime:

Right.. who knows the real thing.. cant even say if the boy's happy or not.
here's hoping all turns out fine and well!

at 17??? Whoa!!! I just returned from a marriage..at the same thing there..the girl was barely 18..even if she was a girl..maturity is something that needs to be attained..before something serious like marriage, it's something to fall in love and it's something else to marry someone...althought it's clear that this guy is marrying under pressure from his parents, the fact can not be denyied that this generation is becoming too QUICK...

Hmm,child marriage isn't very uncommon in rural India but to hear of it in New Delhi is quite a bit shocking.Marriage at 17 when he isnt even sure what to do with his life ..that's ridiculous

Lime:

Sarthak, if it were a girl - i think the issue would've been different, because girls attain quite some maturity at 17 - but guys need time to flourish their mature selves.. you're right though about the generation becoming fast and quick!
Sid: I know.. urban areas portraying such practices is demeaning.. it is surely ridiculous!

I'm with Harry. If nothing else works out, he should go to the police. That'd satisfy his grand daddy for good! hehe *devilish grin*

harry:

ALL PLZ NOTE>> This is for your info that a guy must b 21 n girl 18. this is minumum age according to official stuff. so even an 18 yr old adult guy cant marry :(

Lime:

Well regardless of whatever Harry - its illegal right? Thats the bottom line - its illegal and uncalled for.. regardless of what he considers right...!

Harry:

Yes ritely said Lime i do agree that it's illegal and yes that is the bottom line.

Lime:

I'm glad you agree, Harry :)
