I was flipping through a copy of Archie's Comics today and came across an advertisement for some candy. The whole page had nothing but a small round blue candy with the caption - 'Lick This'. It evoked a memory I'd like to post.
When I was younger, and had newly purchased the comic, I saw the ad and started thinking. If perfumes could come in magazines as trials in the form of rub-on papers, perhaps candies could come in comics in the form of flavored paper.
Despite knowing within, the concept was the silliest I could come up with - I licked the blue area. I feel stupid even 7 years later...

u read archies? wow. i sure am glad to find another person my age who reads archies. i love them. and i remember that ad, fell for it when i was 9-10 or something. licked it and then wondered maybe the taste of paper is something that people in US are making really thinking about for a candy. turned the page and found the actual ad. felt really goofy.

I love Archies - have a great collection and damn proud of it :D I still flip through the menacing stories i've gone through thousands of times before - love them more each time... reading your experience with the paper lick - thank you, i suddenly don't feel so stupid anymore... ;)

Exactly. i might have read my archies collection many many times over and i still love them. fav chars: Jug and Betty. i wish they would come up with a 512 page edition. the double digest gets over pretty fast. and i am jealous of those people in the us of a because they have those comic conventions. why don't we have something like that in India? lets have one gur ;)

Another Archie fan here, But I like jug much more, and am nuts about betty. I don't think that there is anything wrong in licking the paper, just check out the phiringi brains..god know what these people are upto :)/. Well I have never licked one till now, I will try the next edition :)

I like all characters - particularly Juggie for his carefree attitude and the sheer gluttony :) Betty is goody-two-shoes, hence the preference of Ronnie - who is more true to life :D I am jealous of the people in US for a lot of friggin' reasons - when do we start working on the convention, eh?

Sarthak - I guess, nothing wrong with 'trying things out' ;) only after you try and realize it wasn't worth it (do u even know how paper tastes?) - you feel so 'dumb'!

betty? isn't ron too stiffy and selfish. a little is ok but shes just too much. i like jug because hes carefree, always saving archie from the mistakes he does, is a great friend, and most of all, apart from anything to do with chow, he has his head on his shoulders. u know what 's' on his sweater means? please let me know.

Another Archie fan out here :) Me love Juggie too :)
Gur, do you know about vectors? I've been working my ass off on one since the past 3 days. Just finsihed it and hence got the time to surf. Cya soon. Tc.

Abhi: Ron is a spoilt brat - i relate greatly with that :) and she's not exactly selfish - she does a lot of charity work - she's only too posessive about Archie - thats my perspective of the character :) Juggie's real name is Forsythe - don't know if the 'S' relates to that in anyway.
Dhaval: Chacha Chaudhary - reminds me of good old 'four-year-old' days :) I have no clue about the blast - been so busy in my bubble work - will definitely checkup the story on rediff right away... But it sure as hell sounds crazy man!
Amrita: Not much about vectors - but am pretty good with graphics otherwise - lemme know if I can be of assistance!

Ronnie, well yeah shes good too but quite snobby. she'll give betty a harsh reply at the start of the story but then end up helping her towards the end. in a way yeah, shes more life like ;)
yep jug's name is forsythe, but i think its something to do with his gf or something. dunno. btw, jug head a gf way back when they were kids before he came to riverdale, Joannie Gump.
i used to like reading chacha chaudhry when i was a kid, but liked Billoo more.
amrita: if you want to make fast vector like stuff with not much need to detail, try the cutout filter in Photoshop.

Gosh! U leave the blog for one day, and next day u find it flooded...Great going guys, Let the thoughts flow :)
Well, Lime Yes I know what paper taste's like..I am one of those junkiees who can eat anything..well, how i was supposed to spend 3 hours of my exam :)
made cooler by Sarthak on July 31, 2003 11:58 AM
Abhi - Exactly what I meant, more true to life :) Its hard to find characters like Betty who're willing to give up everything for anyone - but Veronica is more commonplace, she's within most of us :) I didn't know about Joannie - man, I would love to see what she looked like- hope nothing like Big Ethel! Is this in an Archies Kids edition or something?
Sarthak - For a day? Seems like you've been away for longer really... been barely seeing you around, guess College life does that to you! Btw, I don't think paper is bad for health - considering it comes from trees anyway - right?
made cooler by Lime on July 31, 2003 12:06 PM
she was damn good. blonde with curly hair. but they met briefly. was a jug dbl digest. don't remember the no. borrowed from a library actually. i'll see if i can find it again.
paper might not be bad for health, but do u realy want to eat it?
made cooler by abhi on July 31, 2003 3:06 PM
Ya! Maybe College pre-occupied me with some stuff, but now things are looking a bit easy, but as I have just boarded the ship, The land is still far ahead...and hey, My blog exist...
made cooler by Sarthak on July 31, 2003 3:51 PM
Abhi: Wow, kinda hard to believe the woman-hater once fell in love... maybe it explains his hostility towards girls then! Don't want to eat it - but idle minds tend to wander of in funny directions :)
Sarthak: Sure, your blog exists - but you post so rarely.. its no point having a blog when you can't force yourself to write in it everyday - encourages a lot of creativity.. I believe!

Archies? I never knew you were into these? I don't even remmember how long has it been since I last read or saw one of those :P But I think I was more into TIN TIN then Archies!
made cooler by Preet on August 1, 2003 3:42 PM
Preet: I am so into Archies since.. forever! Each time I don't find something interesting enough on TV and am in bad need for entertainment - my reliable resort is it! Tintin - never developed the interest, just too serious and too long for my taste. Archies are short and crisp - a story a day makes you smiling away :P Man my poetry's getting worse by the minute!
